As a new non-profit, the Pediatric Cancer Foundation – New Jersey is pleased to offer financial and mentorship grants in two categories – educational and research grants.

Our focus is on supporting the development of young people building their medical, healthcare, and wellness careers, and providing a platform for the next generation of doctors, nurses, specialists, and scientists to accelerate their vision and their mission to contribute to the field of Pediatric Cancer prevention, treatment, and ongoing health and wellness for those children who are diagnosed.

PCF Educational Grants

This program is designed for medical students, interns, and residents, and provides funding for travel to orthopedic conferences in North America, as well as financial and mentorship support in preparation for papers, posters, and related communications.

Our founder, James C. Wittig, MD, is leading this program, and will personally help guide those who are awarded grants given his over 24 years of experience as an orthopedic oncologist and award-winning surgeon with a large network of experts in pediatric oncology who can be tapped to provide insight and to make professional network introduction which can bring inspiration and knowledge to the “next gen” we are focused on.

Dr. Wittig also attends and contributes to industry events – conferences, lecture series, both in person and online – and as a lifelong mentor can help those completing their medical education and starting out as interns, then residents, to be invited to present their own work, or attend seminars that will enrich their insights and help them build powerful professional relationships crucial to success in the rapidly evolving field of pediatric cancer.

PCF Research Grants

Our research grant program funds and provides expert mentorship to medical students, interns, and residents pursuing innovative approaches to caring for children diagnosed with cancer, with a focus on orthopedic oncology, but not limited to orthopedics. Financial support can include licensing of software and platforms, including those driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI), as well as genetic and molecular medicine, biohacking, and other emerging areas of research.

Our Annual Grant Cycle

As a new Foundation, our annual grant cycle has started this month and runs through November, with all applications due on or before December 1. Our esteemed grant committee reviews each submission and awards all grants in the first week of February.

We will publish our guidelines at the end of this. Please register to receive an alert and a link when the document becomes available.

Questions can be submitted to our Educational and Research Grant Committee chairperson on our website.

A Message from our Founder and Chairman “Our Mission is to serve children afflicted with cancers, and their families, by helping to offset the extreme expenses, address special social needs, and conquer hardships that arise when a child is diagnosed with cancer,” Dr. Wittig said, “The future of our grant programs will be designed in concert with the applicants, as we look forward understanding the kinds of innovations the next generation of doctors, nurses, surgeons, scientists and others envision as we all work together to find new ways to serve children and their families in a support role. We do not provide care – our hospital and cancer center partners do that. We provide wrap-around services, so, for example, we would fund wellness innovations that bring comfort and healing to the people we serve. We look forward to bringing together great minds who will drive the future of care in pediatric oncology scenarios.”
